Upgrade from WordPress 2.2.1 to 2.9.2 complete

It was a straightforward process, as per the upgrade guide at http://codex.wordpress.org/Updating_WordPress

First I logged into my CPanel account and backed up my WordPress MySQL database

Then I connected to my server via FTP (I used WS FTP Professional)  and took a complete copy of all files in my public_html directory.

Next I uploaded all the files for WordPress 2.9.2.

NB: If you’re doing this, take care to ensure your FTP client doesn’t delete files in directories you are uploading new files to, such as wp-content where your themes reside.

Finally, I logged back into my wp-admin and updated several plug-ins that had new versions available.

Shabambo, 15 minutes later, I have leapt forward two years in WordPress version / technology.

Funny how administration of one’s personal sites always lag so far behind at the expense of one’s commercial and client sites.

Anyway, job done and looking forward to doing more blogging on diverse matters here soon.
